Cough Tablets

Indications

respiratory diseases accompanied by cough with difficult-to-expectorate sputum (tracheitis, bronchitis) – as part of combination therapy

Method of Use and Dosage

Orally.

Adults are prescribed 1 tablet 3 times a day. The treatment course lasts for 3-5 days.

The maximum single dose for adults (calculated based on thermopsis) is 0.1 g (14 tablets), the maximum daily dose (calculated based on thermopsis) is 0.3 g (42 tablets).

Children over 12 years old – 1 tablet 2-3 times a day for 3-5 days.

The need for a repeat course is determined by the doctor.

If improvement does not occur after treatment, or symptoms worsen, or new symptoms appear, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Use the medication only according to the method of use and in the doses specified in the instructions.

Section: Composition

1 tablet contains:
Active ingredients: thermopsis lanceolata herb - 6.7 mg, sodium bicarbonate - 250 mg.
Excipients: potato starch, talc.

Description of the dosage form

Round flat-cylindrical tablets of greenish-gray color with a facet. The presence of darker and lighter specks is allowed.

Contraindications

Hyper-sensitivity to the active components of the drug or any of the excipients, peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase, age under 12 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding period.
The drug should not be prescribed in cases of lung diseases with a tendency to hemoptysis (cancer and tuberculosis of the lungs with bleeding).
With caution
Patients with diabetes and individuals on a low-carbohydrate and low-sodium diet.

Special instructions

To improve the thinning and separation of mucus, it is recommended to prescribe plenty of warm fluids.
Patients with diabetes and individuals on a low-carbohydrate diet should take into account that one tablet contains approximately 0.0279 g of carbohydrates (0.0023 XE).

Side effects

Possible allergic reactions, nausea. If any of the side effects listed in the instructions worsen or you notice any other side effects not mentioned in the instructions, inform your doctor about it.

Section: Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting.
Treatment: gastric lavage, activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.

Interaction

Adsorbents, astringents, and coating agents may reduce the absorption of alkaloids contained in the thermopsis herb in the gastrointestinal tract. Cough tablets should not be used simultaneously with medications containing codeine and other antitussive drugs, as this complicates the separation of liquefied mucus. If you are using the above-mentioned or other medications (including over-the-counter ones), consult your doctor before using the cough tablets.

Section: Pharmacodynamics

Combined preparation. The herb of thermopsis has an expectorant effect, exerting a moderate irritating effect on the receptors of the gastric mucosa, reflexively increasing the secretion of bronchial glands. The alkaloids contained in the thermopsis herb (cytisine, methylcytisine, pachycarpine, anagyrine, thermopsin, thermopsidin) have a stimulating effect on the respiratory center and, in high doses, on the vomiting center. Sodium bicarbonate stimulates the secretion of bronchial glands and helps reduce the viscosity of sputum.

Pharmacokinetics

The components of the drug are well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum effect occurs 30-60 minutes after oral administration and lasts for 2-6 hours. They are excreted from the body by the kidneys, the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, and the bronchial glands.
