Peak flow meter, a device for measuring maximum (peak) expiratory flow rate. Intended for monitoring airway status in bronchial asthma, COPD, and some other respiratory diseases.

1. Stand up straight (unless your doctor advises otherwise).
2. Move the indicator to the bottom of the scale, towards the mouthpiece.
3. Hold the peak flow meter straight in front of you. Inhale as deeply as possible. Holding your breath, place the mouthpiece of the peak flow meter in your mouth and seal it tightly with your lips.
4. Do not tilt your head; maintain an upright position.
5. Make a strong and fast exhalation into the device. Ensure that the mouthpiece is not obstructed by your lips or tongue during exhalation. Be careful that saliva does not enter the device during exhalation, as this may distort the readings.
6. If you feel dizzy during the sharp exhalation, immediately stop the measurement.
7. Your peak expiratory flow rate will be displayed on the scale next to the indicator.
8. Remember (or write down) the reading and move the indicator back to the bottom of the scale.
9. Take measurements three times, using the highest of the three readings as the final value.
10. During the diagnostic phase, you should record your maximum morning and evening readings daily on a chart (an example is provided in the user manual). The resulting chart will allow your doctor to assess the dynamics of your condition and, if necessary, adjust your treatment plan.

Individual intolerance to the materials of the product

PRODUCT CARE.
• Avoid dropping the device, keep it clean, and protect it from dust.
• The external surfaces of the device should be thoroughly cleaned every week, more often if necessary.
Rinse the peak flow meter both outside and inside with warm water and a mild liquid detergent. After that, rinse the peak flow meter thoroughly with clean water, gently shake out any remaining water, and air dry it.
Disinfect the device before first use and at least once a week as follows:
Soak the device in a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with a 0.5% detergent solution at a temperature of (18-24) °C, with an exposure time of at least 30 minutes. After disinfection, rinse the peak flow meter thoroughly with clean running water at least three times, gently shake out any remaining water, and air dry it.
For cleaning the mouthpiece, we recommend using isopropyl alcohol wipes (IPA 70% - 90%).

The device is optimal for children aged 12 and older and adults (depending on individual physiological data).
Scale: 60-800 L/min. When used by younger children, there may be a slight decrease in measurement accuracy.
The device is equipped with adjustable indicators for self-monitoring of a person's expiratory flow rate, thereby showing the maximum lung volume.

• Lifespan of the peak flow meter with proper care – 3 (three) years from the start of operation. After this period, the device should be replaced, as the accuracy of its readings may be reduced.

The peak flow meter is a mechanical device consisting of a tube with a mouthpiece, in which a piston is moved by air exhaled into the tube by the patient. At the moment of exhalation, the piston pushes an indicator that reaches a certain value and stops. This value is the peak expiratory flow (PEF) measurement.
Peak flowmetry is not an absolute but a relative method. Therefore, objective assessment of the patient's condition requires observations over an extended period.
Typically, this process occurs as follows: the doctor prescribes a specific therapy for the patient, instructs them to perform daily (more often in the morning and evening) measurements, record them in a "peak flow diary," and after a certain period (usually two weeks is sufficient), schedules a follow-up appointment.
During the appointment, the doctor, among other things, evaluates the dynamics of changes in PEF readings. If the curve of readings goes up, it indicates that the patient's condition is improving; if it goes down, the opposite is true. This allows the doctor to adjust the prescribed therapy and provide various behavioral recommendations.
The second purpose of peak flowmetry (besides assisting the doctor in selecting therapy and monitoring the disease) is self-monitoring by patients. With a certain level of experience, a patient who regularly measures their PEF can independently draw conclusions about their condition based on these readings, the approach of an asthma attack, deterioration or improvement of their condition, increase or decrease the doses of medications taken, urgently contact a doctor, etc.
