The main functions of the substance include regulation of central nervous system (CNS) activity, participation in the formation of blood cells - erythrocytes, as well as support for the immune system. The main source of this nutrient is animal-derived products, making adequate intake especially important for individuals following a strict vegetarian diet.

One of the main functions of vitamin B12 is to ensure the growth and maturation of formed blood elements - erythrocytes.
