Benzyl Benzoate 20% Emulsion for External Use 200 g

Benzyl benzoate is used for the treatment of scabies.

The treatment course lasts for 5 days. Adults are prescribed a 20% emulsion, while children under 5 years old receive a 10% emulsion (the preparation is diluted with boiled water in a 1:1 ratio).
For external use. The emulsion is thoroughly rubbed into the skin with hands after washing at night, covering the entire skin surface, excluding the face and scalp. Hands should not be washed until morning. For one application, 50 - 100 g of emulsion is used. On the 2nd and 3rd days, a break in treatment is taken, during which the remaining emulsion is not washed off the skin, and bed linen is not changed. On the 4th day, the application is repeated. The emulsion is completely washed off the skin on the fifth day with warm water and soap without rubbing the skin. Underwear and bed linen are changed after each application.

Active ingredient: benzyl benzoate - 200 mg.
Excipients: household soap (solid) - 10 mg, emulsifying wax - 10 mg, purified water up to 1 g.

A homogeneous emulsion of white or almost white color with a faint specific odor. Sedimentation of emulsion particles is permissible and disappears after shaking.

Hypersensitivity. Use is not recommended in children under 3 years of age.
Pregnancy and lactation:
Use is not recommended for pregnant women and during breastfeeding.

Treatment of complications from scabies (dermatitis, eczema, pyoderma, post-scabietic lymphoplasia) should be conducted simultaneously with the treatment of scabies and continue after its completion.
Treatment of patients identified in the same focus, as well as contact persons, should be carried out simultaneously to avoid re-infection.
Persistent itching after treatment is not an indication for prescribing an additional course of specific therapy. Itching is a reaction of the body to the dead mite and its metabolic products and disappears with the administration of antihistamines and glucocorticosteroid ointments.
All items that have come into contact with infected skin must be treated. Disinfection of bedding, underwear, and towels can be carried out by boiling in a 1-2% solution of soda or any laundry detergent for 5-7 minutes from the moment of boiling or soaking for an hour in chlorine-containing solutions. Outer clothing (dresses, trousers, suits, sweaters, etc.) is disinfected by ironing on both sides with a hot iron. Some items, especially those not subject to thermal treatment, can be hung in the open air for 3 days. For disinfection of certain items (children's toys, shoes, clothing), a method of temporary exclusion from use can be applied, by placing them in tightly sealed plastic bags for 3 days. Mattresses, pillows, and blankets should be excluded from use for 5 days or subjected to chamber disinfection. Soft furniture can be treated with disinfection agents. The apartment must be cleaned, and floors washed with detergents or with the addition of disinfectants.
It is necessary to avoid contact of the drug with the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, mouth, and genital organs. In case of contact, rinse the mucous membranes thoroughly with warm water or a 1%-2% solution of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). If the drug is ingested, the stomach should be rinsed with a 1%-2% solution of sodium bicarbonate and drink a glass of water with activated charcoal (dissolve 6 crushed tablets of activated charcoal in 1/2 glass of water).
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery:
The drug does not affect the ability to drive a car and perform work that requires increased concentration.

Allergic reactions. Local reactions: burning sensation, skin irritation may occur (especially in children). If signs of skin irritation appear, discontinue use of the product.

No pharmacological interactions with other medications have been identified; however, like all antiparasitic agents, benzyl benzoate is not recommended for simultaneous use with other topical medications.

Antiparasitic agent for external use. It exerts toxic effects on various species of mites, including scabies mites, and demonstrates anti-lice activity. It penetrates the chitinous covering and accumulates in the mite's body in toxic concentrations (death of mites occurs within 7-32 minutes). It causes the death of larvae and adult scabies mites.

Penetrates the upper layers of the epidermis, not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.
