Iron is essential in the processes of hematopoiesis and intracellular metabolism. This element is a component of hemoglobin in the blood, responsible for oxygen transport and the execution of oxidative reactions. Iron, being a part of myoglobin and hemoglobin, is included in cytochromes and enzymes that participate in redox reactions. Iron plays an important role in energy release processes, enzymatic reactions, immune function support, and cholesterol metabolism.
The recommended intake provides:
- an intake of 20 mg of iron for men - 143%** of the recommended daily intake level;
- an intake of 20 to 40 mg of iron for women - 143-286%** of the recommended daily intake level;
- physiological iron needs: for pregnant women (1st trimester) and breastfeeding women at 111%** (20 mg), for pregnant women (2nd and 3rd trimesters) at 61% (20 mg).
**Does not exceed the upper tolerable intake level.
