Rennie 48 Chewable Tablets Orange Flavor

Indications

Symptoms associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux esophagitis: heartburn, sour belching, periodic stomach pain, feeling of fullness or heaviness in the epigastric region, dyspepsia (including that caused by dietary indiscretions, medication intake, alcohol, coffee, nicotine abuse), dyspepsia in pregnant women.

Method of administration and doses

Orally.
Adults and children over 12 years: unless otherwise recommended by a doctor, at the onset of symptoms, chew 1-2 tablets (or hold in the mouth until completely dissolved).
If necessary, the dose can be repeated after 2 hours.
The maximum daily dose is 11 tablets.

Composition

1 tablet contains
Active ingredients: calcium carbonate 680 mg, magnesium carbonate (magnesium hydroxide carbonate) 80 mg.
Excipients: sucrose 475 mg, pregelatinized corn starch 20 mg, potato starch 13 mg, talc 33.14 mg, magnesium stearate 10.66 mg, liquid paraffin 5 mg, orange flavoring (orange oil, maltodextrin, purified water) 35.2 mg, sodium saccharin 2 mg.

Description of the dosage form

White square tablets with a creamy tint, with concave surfaces, engraved "RENNIE" on both sides, with an orange scent.

Contraindications

Severe renal insufficiency, hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, nephrocalcinosis, increased sensitivity to the components of the drug, age under 12 years.

Pregnancy and lactation:
When used in recommended doses, the drug poses no danger to the fetus or child.

Section: Special Instructions

When prescribing the drug to patients with impaired kidney function, it is necessary to regularly monitor the concentration of magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium in the blood serum. Patients with impaired kidney function are not recommended to take the drug in high doses for an extended period.

The use of Rennie® in high doses may increase the risk of kidney stone formation.

Advice for patients with diabetes mellitus:

1 tablet of Rennie® contains 475 mg of sucrose.

If the use of the drug is ineffective, consult a doctor for advice.

Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery:
No effect.

Section: Side Effects

When the recommended doses are followed, the drug is well tolerated; however, in very rare cases, allergic reactions may occur: rash, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions. Prolonged use of the drug in high doses in patients with impaired kidney function may cause hypermagnesemia, hypercalcemia.

Section: Overdose

Long-term use of the drug in high doses in patients with impaired kidney function may cause hypermagnesemia, hypercalcemia, and alkalosis, which may manifest as nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness. In this case, the drug should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Interaction

Changes in gastric juice acidity during the use of antacids may lead to a decrease in the rate and extent of absorption of other medications taken simultaneously; therefore, medications should be taken 1-2 hours before or after taking antacid medications.

Tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, cardiac glycosides, levothyroxine, iron preparations, fluorides, phosphates - when used simultaneously, antacids reduce the absorption of these medications.

Thiazide diuretics - when taken simultaneously with antacids, the concentration of calcium in the serum should be regularly monitored.

Pharmacodynamics

Antacid drug for local action. Rennie tablet contains antacid substances - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which provide rapid and prolonged neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid in gastric juice, thereby exerting a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. The achievement of a positive effect within 3-5 minutes is due to the good solubility of the tablets and the high calcium content.

Section: Pharmacokinetics

As a result of the interaction of Rennie with gastric juice in the stomach, soluble salts of calcium and magnesium are formed. The degree of absorption of calcium and magnesium from these compounds depends on the dose of the drug. Maximum absorption is 10% of calcium and 15-20% of magnesium. A small amount of absorbed calcium and magnesium is excreted through the kidneys. In cases of impaired kidney function, the concentration of calcium and magnesium in the plasma may increase. In the intestine, insoluble compounds are formed from soluble salts, which are excreted with feces.
