Indications

Gauze bandages are intended for fixation, application, making surgical dressings, protecting the wound from dirt and infection, as well as ensuring access of oxygen to the wound surface.

Method of Use and Dosage

Break the packaging by twisting it. A sterile bandage is used for various purposes and situations:

• Applying dressings to open wounds (burns) after aseptic treatment to prevent contamination/infection, compression, and fixation, absorption of exudate;

• Tamponade of wounds in case of bleeding;

• Making dressings, and so on.

Recommendations for using the bandage:

• For applying a bandage to an open wound, only clean sterile cloth is allowed.

• Bandaging should not slow down or obstruct arterial and venous blood flow.

• Any bandage is a temporary measure - it needs to be changed and kept clean.

The technique of applying the bandage varies depending on the location of the wound, its size, the nature of the damage, and the purpose of the dressing.

Options for applying a gauze bandage:

• For a cut wound, to protect against environmental factors, apply the cloth in a spiral. The first and last 2 turns of the bandage are securing - they are applied on top of each other. The remaining turns of the bandage are applied in a spiral with an overlap, maintaining an overlap of at least 2-2.5 cm. The gauze bandage will evenly protect the wound from debris and dirt, and the spiral application will minimally restrict blood circulation and lymph flow in the injured limb.

• For a lacerated wound after primary surgical treatment, a bandage-dressing is applied. This involves placing a square piece of gauze over the entire area of damaged tissue and securing it with adhesive tape at the corners. This allows for timely and easy changing of the dressing, saves time in its application, and guarantees greater access to oxygen, better than with a spiral application. It should be noted that this type of dressing can only be used in a hospital setting or at home, where all cleanliness principles are observed. In a hike, public transport, or other similar conditions, this dressing is not recommended.

• In the case of a nose or chin injury, the difficulty lies in securing the dressing on the head. The bandage is used as both a protective and securing material. Two pieces of gauze bandage about 50 cm long are taken and crossed. The point of intersection of the bandages is placed on the wound, and the ends are tied around the head. This method of applying the bandage can be used for eye injuries or other areas of the head.
