Erythromycin 10000 IU/g eye ointment 10 g

Erythromycin is indicated for use in adults and children from 0 to 18 years of age.
Ocular infections caused by sensitive microorganisms: conjunctivitis (including in newborns), bacterial blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, meibomitis; in combination therapy for bacterial keratitis, chlamydial conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, trachoma; prevention of neonatal blennorrhea.

Locally.
The ointment is applied behind the lower eyelid in the form of a strip 0.5-1 cm long, 3 times a day.
The duration of treatment for neonatal ophthalmia, bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, meibomitis, in combination therapy for keratitis depends on the form and severity of the disease, but should not exceed 14 days.
For the treatment of trachoma - 4-5 times a day, treatment should be combined with the incision of follicles. When the inflammatory process subsides, the medication is used 2-3 times a day. The duration of treatment for trachoma is up to 4 months.
For the treatment of chlamydial conjunctivitis, the ointment is placed in the conjunctival sac 4-5 times a day, the duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease, up to 3 months.
For the prevention of blennorrhea in newborns, a strip of ointment 0.5-1 cm long is placed behind the lower eyelid once.

In 1 g of ointment, there are:
Active ingredient: erythromycin (calculated as anhydrous substance and activity 1000 mcg/mg) - 0.01 g.
Excipients: anhydrous lanolin, sodium metabisulfite, petroleum jelly.

Ointment of yellow to brownish-yellow color.

Hypersensitivity to erythromycin or any of the components of the medication, severe liver and kidney dysfunction, history of jaundice.
With caution
Elderly age, impaired liver and kidney function.

The ointment contains lanolin, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g., contact dermatitis).
Children
When preventing ophthalmia neonatorum, erythromycin eye ointment should not be washed out of the eye.
In children whose mothers have clinically expressed gonorrhea, erythromycin, as an ophthalmic medication, is used simultaneously with an aqueous solution of penicillin G for parenteral administration.

Disorders of the visual organ: hyperemia, irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye, blurred vision, allergic reactions.

Data on drug overdose is not available.

The drug is incompatible with lincomycin, clindamycin, and chloramphenicol (antagonism).
It reduces the bactericidal effect of beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems).
Pharmaceutically incompatible with aminoglycosides. When used with corticosteroids, it leads to an increased effect of corticosteroids.

Erythromycin is an antibiotic from the macrolide group, produced by Streptomyces erythreus.
When applied locally, it exerts antibacterial action. It reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of the ribosome, disrupting the formation of peptide bonds between amino acid molecules and blocking protein synthesis in microorganisms (it does not affect nucleic acid synthesis). When used in high doses, depending on the type of pathogen, it may exhibit bactericidal action. It is effective against sensitive microorganisms causing superficial eye infections of the conjunctiva and cornea, including against Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis.

Pharmacokinetics
Absorption
Absorbed in the cornea and aqueous humor of the eye. When applied locally, a therapeutic concentration of erythromycin is achieved in the eye tissues, with low systemic absorption. In cases of corneal epithelial damage, an effective concentration of erythromycin in the anterior chamber fluid is reached 30 minutes after application.
Distribution
Bioavailability is 30-65%. Distributed in most tissues and fluids of the body. Plasma protein binding is 70-90%.
Metabolism
Metabolized in the liver, partially forming inactive metabolites. Half-life is 1.4-2 hours.
Excretion
Excreted by the intestines and kidneys.

Store after first opening the package for no more than 6 weeks.
