Iodine 5% solution for external use alcohol 25 ml bottle

Iodine is indicated for use in adults and children aged 0 to 18 years for the treatment of the following conditions:
Inflammatory and infectious skin diseases; abrasions; cuts; microtraumas; wounds; inflammatory infiltrates; treatment of wound edges; skin preparation prior to injections, punctures, catheterization.

For external use, apply to the affected or treated areas of the skin. When preparing the surgical field, wipe the skin twice with a sterile gauze pad soaked in the solution. The total processing time is 4-6 minutes.

Active ingredient: iodine – 5.0 g.
Excipients: potassium iodide – 2.0 g; ethanol (ethyl alcohol) 95% – 48.4 g; purified water – up to 100 ml.

A clear liquid of reddish-brown color with a characteristic odor.

Hypersensitivity to iodine or any of the excipients, thyrotoxicosis, herpetiform dermatitis.

Light and temperatures above 40 ºC accelerate the decomposition of active iodine. The preparation should have a dark brown color. Discoloration of the solution indicates the breakdown of the complex with the transition of active iodine to iodide ion and a decrease in the effectiveness of the preparation.
Alkaline or acidic environments, the presence of fat, pus, or blood weaken antiseptic activity.

Skin irritation, allergic reactions (skin itching); with prolonged use on extensive wound surfaces - iodism (rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema, increased salivation, tearing, acne rash).
If any of the undesirable reactions listed in the instructions worsen, or if you notice any other undesirable reactions not mentioned in the instructions, inform your doctor.

In case of overdose, symptoms of iodism, irritation, and burns may occur.
Treatment is symptomatic; wash off excess medication with clean running water.

Pharmaceutically incompatible with essential oils, ammonia solutions; with white precipitate mercury (mercury amidochloride) - forms an explosive mixture.

Antiseptic agent. The main active ingredient is molecular iodine, which possesses antiseptic properties. When applied to extensive skin surfaces, iodine exerts a resorptive effect: it actively influences metabolic processes, enhances dissimilation, and participates in the synthesis of thyroxine and triiodothyronine. Ethyl alcohol slows down the elimination of iodine and reduces its irritating effect on tissues. It has a bactericidal effect on both gram-positive and gram-negative flora (most actively on Streptococcus spp. and Escherichia coli), as well as on pathogenic fungi and yeasts. The more resistant flora is Staphylococcus spp.; however, with prolonged use of the product, suppression of staphylococcal flora is observed in 80% of cases. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant. The product is minimally toxic.

Upon contact with the skin, 30% is converted into iodides, while the remaining portion is converted into active iodine. It is partially absorbed. The absorbed portion penetrates tissues and organs, being selectively taken up by the thyroid gland. It is excreted primarily by the kidneys, as well as by the intestines, sweat glands, and in breast milk during breastfeeding.
