Pumpkin Seeds 100 g

As an anthelmintic agent against various tapeworms (beef, pork, and dwarf tapeworms, broad tapeworm, etc.) in cases of poor tolerance to other anthelmintic medications.

Two days before starting the use of pumpkin seeds, the patient is prescribed an enema every morning and a saline laxative the evening before. On the day of treatment, an enema is administered on an empty stomach regardless of stool presence.

Pumpkin seeds are prepared as an emulsion or decoction using the following methods.

Method 1. The pumpkin seeds are cleaned of the hard shell, leaving the inner green membrane; 300 g of cleaned seeds (for adults) are ground in small portions in a mortar, after the last portion, the mortar is rinsed with 50-60 ml of water, which is then poured into the plate with the ground seeds and mixed thoroughly (50-100 g of honey can be added). The resulting mixture is taken by the patient on an empty stomach while lying in bed, in small portions over 1 hour; after 3 hours, a laxative is given; then, after half an hour, an enema is administered. Food intake is allowed after the stool induced by the enema or laxative. For daily intake, children are prescribed the following age dosages: 3-4 years - 75 g; 5-7 years - 100 g; 8-10 years - 150 g; 10-15 years - 200-250 g.

Method 2. The pumpkin seeds are crushed together with the shell in a meat grinder or mortar, poured with double the amount of water, and evaporated in a water bath over low heat without boiling for 2 hours; the decoction is filtered through cheesecloth, after which the oily film is removed from the surface of the decoction. The entire decoction is taken on an empty stomach within 20-30 minutes. After 2 hours of taking the decoction, a saline laxative is given. For adults, a decoction from 500 g of unpeeled seeds is prescribed; for children over 10 years - from 300 g; 8-10 years - from 250 g; 5-7 years - from 200 g; from 3 to 5 years - from 100-150 g.

Seeds of the naked-seeded pumpkin (which do not have a hard shell) are used without processing at a dose of 150-200 g per intake; a decoction from naked-seeded pumpkin seeds is also used (150 g of seeds are boiled in 450 ml of water in a water bath for one hour, cooled, and filtered through dense fabric: the dose for adults is 400-450 ml of decoction) and emulsion (150 g of seeds are ground with the addition of 450 ml of water; the dose for adults is 400-450 ml).

Pumpkin seeds (Cucurbitae semen)

Seeds are elliptical, dense, slightly tapered on one side, bordered by a rim along the edge. The surface of the seeds is glossy or matte, smooth or slightly rough.

The seed coat consists of two parts: a woody, easily separable outer layer and an inner membranous layer that closely adheres to the embryo; sometimes the woody coat is absent (naked seed variety). The embryo consists of two yellowish-white cotyledons and a small root. The length of the seed is 1.5-2.5 cm, width 0.8-1.4 cm, thickness in the middle part of the seed 0.1-0.4 cm. The color of the seeds is white, white with a yellowish or grayish tint, less commonly greenish-gray or yellow. The color of the seeds of the naked seed variety ranges from yellowish-green to greenish-brown. There is no odor.

Increased sensitivity to the drug; age under 3 years.
