Tonsilgon N Drops for Oral Use 100 ml

Indications

Acute and chronic diseases of the upper respiratory tract (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis).
Prevention of complications in respiratory viral infections and as an adjunct to antibiotic therapy in bacterial infections.

Method of administration and doses

Orally. The drops for oral administration are taken undiluted, holding in the mouth for some time before swallowing.
Unless the doctor has prescribed a different dosing regimen, the following dosing regimens should be followed:
In the acute period of the disease:
Adults and children over 12 years - 25 drops 5-6 times a day.
Children from 6 to 12 years - 15 drops 5-6 times a day.
Children from 1 year to 6 years - 10 drops 5-6 times a day.
After the acute symptoms of the disease (sore throat) have disappeared, treatment with the drug should continue for another week.
After the acute symptoms have disappeared:
Adults and children over 12 years - 25 drops 3 times a day.
Children from 6 to 12 years - 15 drops 3 times a day.
Children from 1 year to 6 years - 10 drops 3 times a day.
If the symptoms of the disease persist without improvement for 7 days while using the drug, it is necessary to consult a doctor. If complaints resume after completing the course of treatment with the drug, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Use the drug only according to the indications, method of administration, and doses specified in the instructions.

Section: Composition

1 ml (corresponds to 0.98 g) of the preparation contains:
978 mg of liquid extract mixture (4:3:5:4:4:2:4) of medicinal plant raw materials (1:38) from marshmallow root, chamomile flowers, common horsetail herb, walnut leaves, common yarrow herb, oak bark, and dandelion herb.
Extractants: 1st fraction: ethanol 59% (v/v) [= 51% (w/w)], 2nd - 4th fractions: purified water.
Ethanol content: 16.0 - 19.5% (v/v).

Description of the dosage form

Transparent or slightly cloudy liquid of yellowish-brown color with a characteristic odor. Opalescence (cloudiness) and the formation of a small sediment may occur during storage.

Contraindications

Increased sensitivity to the components of the drug, in particular, to plants of the Asteraceae family; alcoholism (including after anti-alcohol treatment); childhood (up to 1 year) - due to the presence of ethanol in the drug.
With caution: liver diseases, traumatic brain injury, brain diseases, childhood over 1 year (use is possible only after consulting a doctor) - due to the presence of ethanol in the drug.

Special Instructions

If symptoms of the disease persist for 7 days during the use of the medication or the patient's condition worsens, a consultation with a doctor should be sought.
During storage, slight cloudiness and the formation of a small sediment may occur, which does not affect the quality and effectiveness of the medication.
25 drops correspond to 1.4 ml of the medication. The required dose is measured using a bottle with a dosing dropper. The bottle should be held vertically when dosing the medication. Shake well before use!
The medication contains 16.0 - 19.5% (v/v) ethanol (152 mg/ml), which corresponds to up to 210 mg per single dose for adults (25 drops), equivalent to 6 ml of beer or 3 ml of wine, and up to 84 mg per single dose for children from 1 year old (10 drops), equivalent to 3 ml of beer or 1 ml of wine. In the maximum single dose (25 drops), the content of absolute ethyl alcohol is 0.21 g; in the maximum daily dose (25 drops 6 times a day) - 1.26 g. Due to the ethanol content, the medication should not be taken by patients with alcoholism, as well as after treatment for alcohol dependence. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and high-risk groups, such as patients with liver diseases or epilepsy, should be considered.
Information for patients with diabetes: the medication Tonsilgon® N contains less than 0.1 "Bread Unit" (BU) per 10 drops.

Overdose

To date, no cases of overdose have been reported. In the event of an overdose, an increase in side effects from the gastrointestinal tract may occur. Treatment: symptomatic.

Interaction

The combination with antibacterial medications is possible and advisable. Interaction with other medications has not been described at this time.

Pharmacodynamics

The pharmacological properties are determined by the biologically active substances included in the preparation. Tonsilgon® N has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. The active components of the preparation, such as chamomile, marshmallow, and horsetail, contribute to the increased activity of non-specific protective factors of the body. Polysaccharides, essential oils, and flavonoids from chamomile, marshmallow, and yarrow, as well as tannins from oak bark, have anti-inflammatory effects and help reduce swelling of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.
