How to use

Orally. Children aged 3 to 6 years: 200 mg (2 capsules of 100 mg or 1 capsule of 200 mg) 3 times a day (interval between doses 8 hours). Children aged 6 to 18 years: 200 mg (2 capsules of 100 mg or 1 capsule of 200 mg) 3-4 times a day (interval between doses 6-8 hours). Adults: 200 mg (2 capsules of 100 mg or 1 capsule of 200 mg) 4 times a day (interval between doses 6 hours).
The duration of treatment is 5-7 days, but no more than 7 days. If no improvement occurs within the first 3 days, consult a doctor. Use the medication only according to the method of administration and in the doses specified in the instructions. If necessary, please consult a doctor before using the medication.

Contraindications & warnings

• Hypersensitivity to nifuroxazide, to nitrofuran derivatives, or to any excipients of the preparation.

• Children under 3 years of age.

• Pregnancy.

• Congenital fructose intolerance, galactose intolerance, galactosemia, glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Use with caution
Liver diseases, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury, brain diseases, lactation period, childhood.

When treating diarrhea with nifuroxazide therapy, rehydration therapy must be conducted simultaneously. In cases of bacterial diarrhea with signs of systemic involvement (deterioration of general condition, fever, symptoms of intoxication or infection), a doctor should be consulted regarding the use of systemic antibacterial agents. If symptoms of hypersensitivity occur (shortness of breath, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, skin rash, skin itching), the use of the medication should be immediately discontinued. Alcohol consumption during nifuroxazide therapy is prohibited. The excipients include sucrose at a dosage of 24 mg for the 100 mg capsule and 48 mg for the 200 mg capsule. Thus, the single dose of sucrose when taking the 100 mg and 200 mg capsules will be 24 mg and 48 mg, respectively. The daily dose of sucrose when taking the 100 mg and 200 mg capsules will be 96 mg and 192 mg, respectively.

При лечении диареи одновременно с терапией нифуроксазидом необходимо проводить регидратационную терапию. В случае бактериальной диареи с признаками системного поражения (ухудшение общего состояния, повышение температуры тела, симптомы интоксикации или инфекции) следует обратиться к врачу для решения вопроса о применении антибактериальных препаратов системного действия. При появлении симптомов гиперчувствительности (одышка, отек лица, губ, языка, кожная сыпь, кожный зуд) следует немедленно прекратить прием препарата. Употребление алкоголя во время терапии нифуроксазидом запрещено. В составе вспомогательных веществ присутствует сахароза в дозировке 24 мг для капсулы 100 мг и 48 мг для капсулы 200 мг. Таким образом, разовая доза сахарозы при приеме капсул 100 и 200 мг составит 24 мг и 48 мг соответственно. Суточная доза сахарозы при приеме капсул 100 и 200 мг составит 96 мг и 192 мг соответственно.

Side effects, overdose & interactions

Allergic reactions (skin rash, urticaria, Quincke's edema, anaphylactic shock). If any of the side effects listed in the instructions worsen or if you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, inform your doctor.

Symptoms of overdose are unknown.
Treatment is symptomatic.

Concurrent use with medications that cause disulfiram-like reactions (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, tachycardia, blurred vision, weakness, seizures) is not recommended, as well as with drugs that depress central nervous system function. If you are taking other medications (including over-the-counter) before starting Ecofuril®, consult your doctor.

Pharmacology

Nifuroxazide is an antimicrobial agent, a derivative of nitrofuran. It blocks the activity of dehydrogenases and inhibits respiratory chains, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and a number of other biochemical processes in the microbial cell. It disrupts the microbial cell membrane and reduces the production of toxins by microorganisms. Nifuroxazide exerts its antibacterial action exclusively in the intestinal lumen. It is highly active against Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp.; Clostridium perfringens, Vibrio cholerae, pathogenic Vibrions, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus spp. The following are weakly sensitive to nifuroxazide: Citrobacter spp., Enterobacter cloacae, and Proteus indologenes. The following are resistant to nifuroxazide: Klebsiella spp., Proteus mirabilis, Providencia spp., Pseudomonas spp. It does not disrupt the balance of intestinal microflora. In cases of bacterial diarrhea, it restores intestinal eubiosis. In infections caused by enterotropic viruses, it prevents the development of bacterial superinfection.

After oral administration, nifuroxazide is partially absorbed (10-20%) from the gastrointestinal tract and is significantly metabolized. The majority of the active substance circulates in the blood in the form of metabolites. Nifuroxazide is excreted by the intestines: 20% in unchanged form, while the remaining amount is chemically altered.

Description

Ekofuril is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent intended for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea of infectious origin (without signs of helminthic invasion), chronic colitis, and enterocolitis. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
This medication is available in capsule form, each containing 100 mg of nifuroxazide. It is recommended to take the capsules after meals with a sufficient amount of liquid according to the instructions for use. Typically, the treatment course lasts from 5 to 7 days; however, the duration of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the condition and the physician's recommendations.
